The first 2020 event I have the details of is a special Film Night. On Saturday 11 January there will be a showing of “Yesterday”. This is the 2019 hit film, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis. The film tells the story of struggling musician Jack Malik (played by Himesh Patel), who, after an accident, finds himself the only person who remembers the Beatles and becomes famous after taking credit for their songs. The film also stars Lily James as the protagonist’s childhood friend and love interest, Kate McKinnon as his manager, and Ed Sheeran as a fictionalised version of himself.
..these stripped-down, largely guitar-led Beatles numbers are unfailingly great: they remind you how much you love them (yeah, yeah, yeah), and how much you’d miss their music. Patel, previously best known for his work on EastEnders, proves a real musical talent and a sure-footed leading man,
The Village Hall doors will open at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start. Any profits will go to support the Village ‘Phone Box Library and local homeless charities. The bar will be open.
The Glastonbury Wood Fired Pizza truck returns on Thursday 9th and continues every fortnight from then onward.
On Thursday 16 January we see the very welcome return of the Avalon School Lunch Bunch. Doors open from 12:00 to 2:00pm. Please, please, please come along and have a fabulous lunch and support these great young people.
The HUB Cafe reopens its doors on Saturday 18 January at 10:30am and continues to serve great drinks and food until 1:30pm. Always a great way to meet friends and neighbours over a cuppa and brunch or lunch.
The second film showing of the month takes place on the evening of the 18th. The film will be a showing of the drama/comedy, The Upside. This is a Hollywood remake of a French language film which is based on the real life of a paralysed billionaire (played by Bryan Cranston) who forms an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled ex convict (played by Kevin Hart) who he hires to take care of him. Usual arrangements – doors open at 7:00pm for a 7:30pm start. The bar will be open and snacks, sausage rolls ets available during the interval.
Also this month we have the inaugural meeting of the Stawell Heritage Society. This will take place in the Village Hall on Monday 20 January at 7:30pm. This first meeting will be an informal discussion to share ideas and areas of interest, to decide on future organisation and find people willing to help compile a village archive. There seems to be lots of interest in this new venture; I’m certainly looking forward to going along.
The first Church Coffee Morning of the decade will be held at the Old Manor House with hosts, Johnny and Arlette Bannister. As usual this runs from 10:30am to 12:00pm. A great chance for a catch up with a hot drink and cake and biscuits.
It looks like a great start to this decade’s activities in the village. Remember there are also all the regular events in the hall. These include Art, Short Mat Bowling, HIITS, Yoga, Running and Whist. Why not try something new this year?
